Identity Magazine: Special Coverage – Marwa Rakha’s personal favorite chants! #Jan25 #Egypt

Marwa Rakha’s personal favorite chants!

On the morning and afternoon of The Friday of Anger (28 January), protesters walked from one side street to the other calling upon Egyptians, in their homes or balconies, to join them

One! Two! Egyptians, where are you?

This was the main chant throughout the revolution since it started on 25 January

The people … want … to topple the regime

After the President announced the new cabinet and the new vice president, on Saturday 29 January, it was amended to

The people … want … to topple the president

After the massacre on bloody Wednesday, this same chant turned into

The people … want … the trial of the president!

The people … want … the trial of the regime!

The protesters screams against corruption were loud and clear in this chant:

حسنى مبارك؟

Hosni Mubarak?

Corrupt! Corrupt!

Gamal Mubarak?

Corrupt! Corrupt!

The NDP?

Corrupt! Corrupt!

Ahmed Ezz?

Corrupt! Corrupt!

Ahmed Shafik?

Corrupt! Corrupt!

Omar Soliman?

Corrupt! Corrupt!

Every time the police used tear gas canisters, rubber bullets, metal pellets, water cannons, batons, tasers, or armored vehicles against unarmed protesters, they would chant:

سلمية …

Peaceful … Peaceful (in reference to their protests!)

When police brutality peaked on Friday of Anger, and people were killed and run down by armored vehicles, the chants addressed the army

One! Two! The military, where are you?

And when the army responded and the police evacuated Tahrir square and the streets, people chanted:

الجيش …

The army and the people are hand in hand!

They also chanted against religious discrimination and sectarian strives:

مسلم …

Muslim … Christian … We are one!

When the police set the criminals free and looters spread terror and havoc in the streets, the protesters chanted:

اللى يحب مصر … ما يخربش مصر!

He who loves Egypt, will not destroy Egypt!

There were also humorous messages to the president

Gamal, tell your father: the Egyptians hate your guts!

Mubarak, oh Mubarak! Your plane is ready!

Mubarak, oh Mubarak! Bin Ali awaits you!

Wake up Mubarak and smell the coffee! Today is your last day!

We don’t want him!

Leave! Degage!

And this was the people’s response to the curfews imposed by the army; they simply refused to leave the square!

He should leave! We will not leave!

And after the President stepped down

The people … want … to purge the country!
