THIS IS A GUEST POST BY HALA MOHAMED
This is exactly what I said; when I had read Lady's Gaga's interview for "Celebrity" magazine: I was being sarcastic. I felt it super ironic of her character to talk about such "stuff".
I thought: we dance to her beat, and we cannot control our feet!
But advice? No, No, and one more No!
Then I read what she had said again, and I realized that she is so/very right. And that I was wrong about my assumption. I admit it.
What she had said is quite priceless. I find it priceless concerning the fact that many Egyptian girls are not even aware of it! Sounds confusing, right?
Let me start from the start:
As a twenty-year-old Egyptian girl – speaking of one particular matter: I can tell that many girls of our society perceive marriage as a mission; the ultimate objective, so to speak.
I used to feel sorry for those girls, but NOW: Those girls just deserve what would happen later; when they "accomplish their mission". I bet you can already imagine it!
Needless to say, they are not interesting by any means.
For example, you cannot have a proper conversation with them about politics or science.
"Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you're wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn't love you anymore." — Lady Gaga
Those who cannot read between the lines, said:
Career will not make you a mother.
Career will not satisfy your emotional needs.
They didn't think what their career is going to offer them, which I find very ironic.
My job is not to tell what a career is going to offer.
My job is to write and to share what I write, to get you to think.
Dear Egyptian girls,
Give your mind a chance to think …
